How to compare dental treatment quotes

A worksheet for lining up dental offers so the price, the materials, and the exclusions describe the same work.

By VeriClinify Editorial Team · Published 21 Sept 2026 · Last reviewed 21 Sept 2026

Short answer

Compare offers only after each one names the teeth, the materials, what is provisional, what is excluded, and what can change after an examination. A lower number on a thinner plan is not a saving.

Key takeaways

  • Sort each quote into clinical work, clinic fees, and travel items.
  • Do not compare a provisional tooth with a final crown.
  • Write down exclusions before you look at the total.
  • Ask what must be reconfirmed after the examination.

Compare treatment offers

Submit one case. Selected clinics can reply with an offer. You compare the plans and choose the clinic yourself.

Start with the scope, not the total

A dental quote is comparable when it describes the same work. Start by writing the scope in one sentence: which teeth, which jaws, and what you hope to be able to do afterwards. Then force every offer to answer that sentence.

Split each offer into three piles:

  1. Clinical work: examinations, extractions, implants, crowns, veneers, provisional teeth, grafts.
  2. Clinic conditions: who treats you, how many visits, what the warranty says, what is excluded.
  3. Travel items: hotel, transfer, flights, interpreter. Count an item only if the offer lists it.

A package that mixes all three into one number is still usable, but only after you unpack it. Package inclusions is the companion page.

The lines that change the meaning of a price

LineWhy it matters
Tooth positions"Full smile" is not a tooth chart.
MaterialZirconia, porcelain, and acrylic are different.
Provisional versus finalA temporary tooth is not the finished crown.
Implant brand and modelNeeded for later service. See the implant guide.
Extractions and graftsOften the reason a quote rises after the exam.
Sedation or extra imagingSometimes billed apart from the package.
Warranty textDuration is meaningless if travel and breakages are excluded.
Deposit and refundA paid date is not the same as a confirmed plan.

The FDA's description of an implant system (body, abutment, and the tooth it supports) is a useful reminder that one word can hide three fees. You do not need to be a dentist to ask which of the three the quote includes.

How to handle a price that looks much lower

Do not convert a gap into a percentage saving. First mark every blank cell. A blank cell is not zero. It is unknown. Ask the clinic to fill it or to say "not included".

Then add costs the quote never claimed to cover. Flights, a night the hotel page did not include, a return visit, and a repair in Estonia are part of your cost even when they are not part of the clinic's invoice. Tervisekassa's pages on care abroad are about reimbursement rules, not about which clinic is cheaper. Do not assume a fund will repay a private dental trip. Read the current page before you subtract a reimbursement from the quote.

What "confirmed" should mean

A preliminary estimate is the clinic's reading of incomplete information. A confirmed plan is what the clinic says after it has examined you and, if needed, seen imaging. Even then, a dentist can find a crack, an infection, or a bite problem on the day. Ask, in writing, which parts of the price can still change after you sit in the chair. Why a quote can change lists the usual reasons without pretending they are rare.

What this means for patients

If you have no offers yet, one clear description of your case is more useful than five different messages to five clinics. Submit that description once, then compare the replies in the same table. You choose the clinic. VeriClinify does not assign one.

If you already hold two quotes, you do not need a new clinic to start the table. Fill the rows you have. The empty rows are the email you send next.

A worked example without fake prices

Imagine two letters about the same missing molar. Letter A says "implant package " and a total. Letter B lists the implant body, a named brand, the abutment, a provisional crown, and a final crown, each as included or excluded. Letter B can be more expensive on the page and still be the only letter you can compare with a dentist at home.

Now imagine Letter A is cheaper because the final crown is "from our laboratory, priced after the trip". That cheaper total is a down payment on an unknown second invoice. Put the unknown in the table as unknown. If you later receive the laboratory price, you have a new quote, not a confirmation of the old one.

Do the same with dates. A quote that expires on a named day is not rude. It is easier to trust than a quote that is "valid for a limited time" with no date. Write the day next to the total. When the day passes, ask for a refreshed letter rather than assuming the old one still describes the work.

Limitations

This worksheet does not produce a fair price, a ranking, or a statement that any country is cheaper. It does not check a licence. Use how to check a clinic for that separate question. Figures in adverts are not sources for this page.

Common questions

Can I compare a Turkish package with a local Estonian invoice?
Yes, if you break both into the same lines. Add travel, time away, and any return visit that the warranty does not cover. Do not stop at the clinic fee.
What if one clinic will not itemise?
Then you do not yet have a comparable offer. Ask again for the missing lines. A single package total can hide exclusions.
